Direct Integration
Microsoft Teams as your business phone
Direct Routing for Microsoft Teams from $5 per user per month. Dial and receive calls inside the Teams app, with full PBX features, call queues, recording, and mobile access. Your team uses the interface they already know; we provide the carrier side.
What the Microsoft Teams integration does
Real capabilities, not marketing claims. What works out of the box and what does not.
Dial and receive inside Teams
Calls route to the Teams Phone tab on desktop, web, and mobile. Outbound dialing from the Teams dialer, contact card click-to-call, and call history all work as if Teams was the phone system — because once we're connected, it is.
Full PBX features through Teams
Extension dialing between users, call transfer, call forwarding, ring groups, auto-attendant, hold music — all the standard phone-system features, available inside the Teams interface. No separate softphone app required.
Call queues and agent presence
Inbound queues with round-robin, longest-idle, or ring-all distribution. Agent presence (Available, Busy, Away) controls routing automatically. Built into Teams' existing presence system rather than a parallel one.
Configurable call recording
Per-line recording with retention policies you control. Recordings are stored in your specified location and accessible via standard playback. Transcription is available as a paid add-on if needed.
Carrier-direct routing
Calls connect through our direct carrier contracts rather than a wholesale middleware layer. Standard real-time call quality monitoring; geo-redundant routing minimizes downtime.
One invoice for the carrier side
VoIP International bills monthly for the Direct Routing service ($5/user) plus any usage. Your Microsoft Teams licensing relationship stays with Microsoft.
How it works
Three-phase deployment. Most customers complete cutover in 2 to 4 weeks end to end.
Confirm prerequisites and licensing
Customer needs Microsoft Teams with a license tier that supports Direct Routing (Teams Phone or equivalent). We confirm what you have before quoting.
Provision and configure Direct Routing
We provision the SBC routing on our side and assist your IT team with the Teams Admin Center configuration. Most deployments take 1 to 2 weeks from kickoff to first call.
Port numbers and cut over
Number porting happens after the routing is tested. We typically cut over by user group or office to minimize risk. Once cut over, your users dial and receive from Teams as their primary phone interface.
$5/user/month add-on.
Direct Routing service charged monthly. Outbound usage billed separately at standard per-minute rates. Microsoft licensing relationship stays with Microsoft.

Common questions about the Microsoft Teams integration
Honest answers on licensing, pricing, configuration, and call quality.
Do we need a Microsoft Teams Phone System license?
Yes. Direct Routing requires a Teams license tier that supports it — typically Teams Phone or the bundled E5 license. We confirm what you currently have during quoting; if you need to add licensing, that happens on the Microsoft side and is not part of our $5/user pricing.
Is the $5/user/month all-in, or are there additional charges?
The $5/user/month covers the Direct Routing service. Usage (outbound minutes) is billed separately at our standard published rates — same per-minute pricing as our regular phone service. Number porting is $15 per number (one-time). Optional add-ons like transcription are billed separately.
What about our existing phone numbers — do we have to change them?
No. Number porting is standard. We port your existing numbers to our network so they become reachable through Teams. The porting process takes 2 to 4 weeks depending on your current carrier; the rest of the integration can be configured and tested with temporary numbers in parallel.
How is call quality compared to our current phone system?
Direct Routing through our carrier-direct infrastructure typically performs as well as or better than wholesale-routed alternatives because there's one fewer hop in the call path. Real-time call quality monitoring is included; if there are issues, our network operations team can troubleshoot at the source rather than through a middleware vendor.
What happens if Teams is down or our internet goes out?
We can configure failover routing so inbound calls reach voicemail, an auto-attendant, or a backup mobile number even if your Teams environment is unreachable. The failover configuration is part of standard deployment.
Can users still use Teams for video meetings and chat alongside the phone integration?
Yes — Direct Routing only changes how the Phone tab in Teams routes calls. Video meetings, chat, channels, file sharing, and everything else in Teams continues to work normally with no impact.
Do you handle the Microsoft Teams Admin Center configuration for us?
We assist. The Teams Admin Center configuration requires Microsoft Global Admin or Teams Admin privileges, which you keep — we don't ask for or take admin access to your Microsoft tenant. Our team walks your IT team through the configuration steps. For most organizations this is 2 to 3 hours of joint work over a screen-share session.
